Malteser Tick Remover
Ticks can transmit Lyme Disease to humans through a tick bite. A sign of an infection is a red ring on the skin around the spot where the tick has bitten. However, an infection is also possible without this characteristic!
Lyme Disease has increased significantly in recent years. According to the RIVM, approximately 25,000 people develop Lyme Disease each year.
What should you do in case of a tick bite?
It is very important to remove the tick properly. Use a good tick remover for this!
1. Remove the tick as soon as possible after you discover it!
It is important that the tick is removed as quickly as possible. This reduces the chance that an infected tick can transmit bacteria.
2. Pull the tick out slowly and straight up.
The tick must be removed without twisting and without damaging it. Do not squeeze the tick, as this can cause the tick to leave its fluids in the bite. Therefore, use the Malteser tick remover to remove the tick without damaging it.
3. Do not use oil, alcohol, or fire to remove the tick.
This can actually increase the risk of infection.
4. Disinfect the wound after removing the tick.
Use 70% alcohol or iodine for this. The tick remover can be disinfected in boiling water.
5. Note the date and location of the tick bite.
If it later turns out that you are infected, you can easily find out when and where the tick bite occurred.
6. Monitor the site of the tick bite closely for at least 8 weeks.
If a red spot appears on the body (this can also be in a different location than the bite), go directly to your doctor and ask for a course of antibiotics.
7. Also, if you develop flu-like symptoms without the characteristic red spot, be alert and inform your doctor that you have had a tick bite.
