What is lactoferrin?
Lactoferrin is a naturally occurring iron-binding protein found in mucous membranes, the respiratory tract, and the gastrointestinal tract. The word 'lacto' refers to the richest source: milk. 'Ferrin' refers to the important ability of lactoferrin to bind to iron.

As humans, we receive large amounts of lactoferrin shortly after birth through colostrum, the first breast milk. Later breast milk still contains a lot of lactoferrin compared to the amount we get from dairy. Our body can also produce lactoferrin itself. We can stimulate this production by exercising on an empty stomach, preferably through strength training with the arms.
