Nova Vitae Vitamin E 200IUVitamin E naturally occurs in foods such as sunflower oil, grain products, nuts and seeds, and vegetables and fruits.
Vitamin E is also added to other foods such as margarine and is naturally available as a dietary supplement.
"Vitamin E" is the collective term for a group of fat-soluble compounds with distinctive antioxidative activities.
Naturally occurring vitamin E exists in eight chemical forms (alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-tocopherol and alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-tocotrienol) with varying levels of biological activity. Alpha- (or α-) tocopherol is the only form recognized by the body, allowing it to function as such.
Serum concentrations of vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) depend on the liver, which processes the nutrient after the various forms have been absorbed by the small intestine. The liver preferentially restores only alpha-tocopherol via the hepatic alpha-tocopherol transfer protein.
- Vitamin E has an antioxidative effect
- Vitamin E helps protect against the effects of pollution and sunlight
- Vitamin E helps protect healthy body cells
- Vitamin E helps the (natural) immune system of body cells
- Vitamin E is a free radical scavenger
