Vitakruid Acetyl-L-Carnitine 500mgA semi-essential amino acid
In general, our body forms the semi-essential amino acid l-carnitine from l-methionine and l-lysine, but a lot can go wrong in this conversion process. Factors such as surgery, diet, rapid growth, or intense physical activity can also cause a semi-essential amino acid to become essential. The speed at which our body absorbs the amino acid may then fall short of meeting our needs.
Vegetarians and vegans quickly experience imbalance
Additionally, sufficient carnitine levels can be particularly difficult to achieve for vegetarians and vegans. The semi-essential amino acid is primarily found in animal proteins; meat and dairy are the main sources. Therefore, if you follow a lifestyle with little to no animal products, supplementation with Acetyl-L-Carnitine 500 mg can be beneficial.
Most biologically available form of carnitine
As the name suggests, we use only the l-structural form of carnitine for Acetyl-L-Carnitine 500 mg. From a biochemical perspective, the multifunctional amino acid has two forms, the l- and d-structural forms. The body only recognizes the l-structural form (left-handed form) as natural. The mirrored form, the d-form, does not occur in living material and is therefore referred to as synthetic.
Well absorbed by acetyl
Acetyl is actually a molecular part; the acetyl group is not a molecule on its own. You can compare it to an arm or a leg, very functional within the whole of a body, but worthless on its own. Nevertheless, the coupling of acetyl with carnitine has great value within our body. Three properties of the molecular part ensure a more efficient passage through the cell membrane:
- Acetyl is a lipid-like compound, allowing the intestine to absorb the molecule as a whole.
- The acetyl binding protects the molecule from oxidation, which leads to rapid distribution within the cell.
- The enzymes in our cells can split this binding rapidly. As a result, the body absorbs acetyl-l-carnitine well, unlike regular carnitine.
A high dosage of 500 mg per tablet
In addition to the quality of the nutrient, the dosage is also important. A higher dosage simply provides more active substances and thus more effect. Most acetyl-l-carnitine supplements contain between 250 and 400 mg per capsule. In the studies conducted with this amino acid, however, dosages between 500 and 2000 mg are used. Therefore, Vitakruid's Acetyl-L-Carnitine contains no less than 500 mg of acetyl-l-carnitine per capsule and it is advised to take two to four capsules per day!
