Probiotics are good bacteria that naturally occur in our intestines. In the product, they exist only in inactive form to ensure their shelf life. When the single-celled organisms come into contact with water, they become active again and can help maintain the microbial balance in our intestines.

Pre- and probiotics
In addition to probiotics, there are also prebiotics. These are indigestible dietary fibers that serve as food for the probiotics. This increases the number of active bacteria, making them larger, stronger, and giving them a better chance of survival within our digestive system. Vitakruid has ensured that prebiotics are already included in Symflora® Basis for optimal functioning of the probiotics!

Multiple strains
There are countless bacterial strains that can have an effect on the gut flora. But which one should you select for a good probiotic? Research shows that a probiotic with multiple strains is more effective than a probiotic with just one strain (Hechard et al., 1990). With this knowledge in mind, Vitakruid has chosen a formula with no less than eight strains for Symflora® Basis!

Stability
Vitakruid has chosen to package Symflora® Basis in sachets. This packaging choice has several advantages over other packaging methods. For example, the product in a sachet remains optimally protected against moisture, light, and air.

Survival
Crucial for the value of a probiotic is the survival rate of the bacterial strains after passing through our digestive system. Research from Winclove probiotics in collaboration with Maastricht University shows that the (cfu/g)* in Symflora® remains relatively stable after passing through our digestion.

Metabolic activity
It also emerged from the same research that the (cfu/g)* in Symflora® ensure a lot of metabolic activity. In short, metabolic activity refers to the activity level that bacterial strains reach within our digestive system without being damaged.
Passing the survival and metabolic activity test are relevant benchmarks for selecting a good probiotic. Often, the impression is given that the number of colony-forming units (cfu/g)* is leading. The more (cfu/g)*, the better the product. However, this is a misconception. For what use is a large amount of (cfu/g)* when the bacteria all die in our stomach acid without reaching the relevant destination, the intestines?

*CFU/g The abbreviation (cfu/g) comes from the English abbreviation (cfu/g), which means colony forming units per gram. In Dutch, we have created the term, kolonievormende eenheden per gram. The germ count or the colony forming units per gram represent the number of probiotic colonies present in one gram of the product. One gram of Symflora® Basis contains 10^9 (cfu/g), so one sachet of 2 grams contains two times 10^9 (cfu/g).

Ingredients
Corn starch, maltodextrin, FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides), inulin, dextrin, plant proteins, potassium chloride, magnesium sulfate, bacterial strains, enzymes (amylases), vanilla powder (flavoring), manganese sulfate.

Usage
Take 1 sachet per day.
Dissolve the contents of one sachet in approximately 100 ml of lukewarm water. Let it sit for about 1 minute.
Stir well before intake. Preferably take on an empty stomach.
If you are using antibiotics: wait 2 hours after taking the medication before using Symflora® Original.
