Vitals Every day
Every Day Tablets has been the most popular variant in the Every Day series for years. This is a one-per-day multi in tablet form, suitable for adults from 18 years old. It is a carefully designed multi with essential micronutrients and special additions. In the composition, the choice has been made for well-absorbed substances and forms, in the right ratios and with the most optimal dosages as much as possible. Choices have been made, of course, because only a limited amount fits in a tablet. Every Day will easily withstand comparison with other multis and is not without reason the first choice of many therapists.

What is new?
The composition has been revised based on the most recent scientific insights, tailored to current data regarding nutritional status in the Netherlands and the optimal intake amounts per nutrient. For some nutrients, the dosage has been reduced. This applies, for example, to the various B vitamins. In a multi that is suitable for long-term use as a supplement to the diet, it is often not necessary to dose these too high. And for some nutrients, the justification for the necessity as daily basic supplementation was lacking, which is why they have been omitted from the formula. This concerns inositol, PABA, and chromium. By reducing the B vitamins, omitting the three mentioned nutrients, and using different forms of compounds here and there, space was created in the tablet and room in the price to increase the dosage of other important nutrients. For example, more is known about the desired intakes of choline, which has been increased from 25 mg to 85 mg per tablet. Additionally, the dosage of vitamin C has been increased from 100 mg to 160 mg, the dosage of magnesium has tripled from 30 mg to 100 mg, and the dosage of calcium has gone from 30 mg to 150 mg, making it even five times higher! These are nutrients that take up relatively much space, but it is really important to get enough of them daily. Moreover, the formula has been made more complete with meso-zeaxanthin as a supplement to lutein and zeaxanthin. Finally, vitamin K1 has been added, and the amounts of vitamin K2, D3, and Q10 have been increased.

For whom
Elke Dag is specifically designed for adults. Vitals has developed separate multis for children, the elderly, and for women who are pregnant or want to become pregnant. Young people and (young) adults can choose Elke Dag Basis (1 per day) or Elke Dag Capsules (young people 1 capsule per day and adults 2 capsules per day). B vitamins in optimal forms and dosages
The Elke Dag multis contain ample but responsible amounts of B vitamins. Careful consideration has been given to daily needs and what the average intakes and their lower limits are. This also takes into account the extent to which the body is able to convert the various B vitamins, the latest scientific insights, and the safe upper limits.

All formulas also contain the biologically active forms of vitamin B2 (riboflavin-5'-phosphate), B6 (pyridoxal-5'-phosphate), B12 (methyl- and adenosylcobalamin), and folic acid (5-methyltetrahydrofolate glucosamine salt). These are the forms as they are used by the body, and research shows that they have a higher bioavailability in the body.

Vitamin B6 as pyridoxal-5'-phosphate
Very high doses of vitamin B6 can, in occasional cases, lead to tingling or numbness in the hands or feet. Therefore, in the Netherlands, a maximum safe upper limit of 21 mg per day for adults is applied for vitamin preparations. The Elke Dag multis remain well below this (maximum 4.2 mg). In addition, only pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (P-5'-P), the biologically active form of vitamin B6, is used, and not pyridoxine-HCL, which still needs to be converted in the body. Further research is currently being conducted to determine whether the aforementioned occasional side effects only occur with vitamin B6 in the form of pyridoxine-HCL and not, or to a lesser extent, with pyridoxal-5'-phosphate. There are indications that only pyridoxine-HCL in high doses is toxic to nerve cells.

Folic acid as 5-methyltetrahydrofolate
Folic acid (pteroylmonoglutamic acid), which is usually used in dietary supplements for stability, is a synthetic form that does not occur naturally. In food, it is found as folate. Folic acid from supplements must be converted by the body into tetrahydrofolate and then into 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF). Research shows that this complex conversion process is far from optimal in a significant group of people. Supplementation with 5-MTHF bypasses this problem.

In the Elke Dag multis, the superior form 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, bound to glucosamine salt (under the brand name Quatrefolic®), is used. This binding with glucosamine salt (from a plant-based source) allows the biologically active form to remain stable and ensures optimal absorbability. Studies show that Quatrefolic® has higher water solubility, stability, and bioavailability. Additionally, 5-MTHF is capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier, unlike the 'regular' (synthetic) form of folic acid.

Vitamin B12 as methyl- and adenosylcobalamin
The absorption of vitamin B12 from food is a complex process. Additionally, there is evidence that the RI (formerly ADH) of 2.5 mcg per day is underestimated and the needs of healthy adults and the elderly can vary and rise to over 20 mcg per day. Due to the safety of vitamin B12 supplementation and the sometimes difficult absorption of B12 from food and supplements, the Elke Dag multis contain generous dosages in the biologically active forms of methyl- and adenosylcobalamin.

Many other B12 products and multis contain cyanocobalamin, which is a cheaper, synthetic form of vitamin B12 that does not occur naturally and must be converted by the body into the active forms. In this process, the cyanide part is detached from the cobalamin (B12) and must then be cleared by the body. Studies also show that vitamin B12 in the form of methyl- and adenosylcobalamin has a higher bioavailability than cyanocobalamin.

Generous vitamin D dosages from plant-based sources
European government institutions have recently determined that the level for adequate intake of vitamin D from food needed to be higher (15 mcg) and that the maximum allowable dosage could be increased (100 mcg). In the Netherlands, they are still cautious and indicate that 10 mcg is sufficient and that the maximum amount is 75 mcg. The RI (or ADH) has strangely remained at 5 mcg. However, in the orthomolecular world, the importance of higher dosages has been known for some time. Leading vitamin D experts advise that the vitamin D level (calcidiol level) of adults should be at least 75 nmol/l. To maintain such a vitamin D level, an oral dose of vitamin D3 is needed, estimated at 25-75 mcg per day.

In the Elke Dag multi's, there are ample doses of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). This form is much more effective than vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) in raising vitamin D levels. Moreover, the new Elke Dag multi's use plant-based vitamin D3 (Vitamin D3V®). It is produced from algae, not from sheep wool fat (as is the case with most vitamin D3 products). This means that all the multis in the Elke Dag series are now also suitable for vegans.

Vitamin K1 and K2
The Elke Dag multis now also contain a small amount of vitamin K1, in addition to a higher dosage of vitamin K2. Vitamin K1 is mainly absorbed by the liver and specifically activates clotting factors, while vitamin K2 has a greater biological availability, is distributed much more over the body tissues, and is therefore more effective in activating other vitamin K-dependent enzymes such as osteocalcin and MGP. These ensure that calcium is well absorbed and reaches the right place, namely in the bones.

The body will always use vitamin K first for the vital blood clotting function. Since vitamin K2 is a much more expensive raw material than vitamin K1, a small amount of K1 is added to the multis so that it can be used for the priority blood clotting function and K2 can be used for the other, very important functions.

The regularly established RI for vitamin K is based on the amount needed for normal blood clotting. Strangely enough, this did not take into account the optimal dosage of vitamin K regarding other vitamin K-dependent bodily processes.

Stability of vitamin K2
Vitamin K2 turns out to be a very sensitive substance. Especially in combination with calcium and/or magnesium, the content of this vitamin in a tablet or capsule decreases significantly. The use of vitamin K2 in a product with high dosages of calcium and/or magnesium is technically a real challenge. Therefore, Vitals uses a K2 ingredient with the brand name K2Vital® Delta, which is even stable in a formula with many of these minerals. A patented micro-encapsulation process is used, where the fat-soluble K2 particles are protected with two layers against air, light, and interaction with other ingredients. Vitals had research conducted in an independent laboratory on the stability of K2Vital® Delta, and it came out on top in the test. It was compared with other brands of vitamin K2, specifically in combination with the ingredients used in Vitals products. The conclusions were that protecting K2 is absolutely necessary, that the K2 content remained stable with K2Vital® Delta, and that it was superior to the other K2 ingredients.

Natural calcium and magnesium from the sea
From now on, calcium and magnesium from the brand Aquamin® sourced from the sea will be used for the multis. This allows for much higher dosages in the tablets than previously used forms, while the absorption of these ingredients is proven to be good.

Magnesium (Aquamin Magnesium) is obtained from the seawater of the Irish Sea, and studies show that it is well absorbed in the body. In addition to about 35% elemental magnesium, the raw material also contains small amounts of more than 70 trace elements.

The calcium (Aquamin Calcium) comes from a red algae called Lithothamnium calcareum. This type of algae absorbs minerals and trace elements from the sea and stores them. When alive, it has a beautiful red/pink color, but when it dies, it calcifies and turns white or light gray. Only calcified red algae is harvested, from the waters along the coast of Iceland. In addition to 32% calcium, the raw material also contains 3% magnesium and small amounts of more than 70 trace elements.

The synergistic effect of the natural trace element profile of this calcium and magnesium may partly explain the better absorbability and the impressive studies conducted with it.

Iron, zinc, copper, and manganese as amino acid chelate (bisglycinate)
For the minerals iron, zinc, copper, and manganese, amino acid chelates (bisglycinates) have been chosen. In this case, each mineral particle is strongly bound (chelated) to two molecules of the amino acid glycine. Minerals in this form of connection reach the small intestine well and are absorbed very effectively. They are also gentle on the stomach, which can be a significant advantage, especially in the case of iron. Moreover, Vitals specifically chooses the amino acid chelates from Albion Minerals, recognizable by the trademark TRAACS®, which stands for The Real Amino Acid Chelate System. This brand was created to clearly distinguish itself from other, possibly inferior, unstable amino acid chelates. Albion has secured over 100 patents worldwide that guarantee the process, science, and structure of their amino acid chelated minerals.

Unique: relatively high dosage of choline
Choline has been incorporated into multivitamins for a long time now. But almost always in low dosages (between 10-30 mg). Because not much was known about it. However, more and more is known now! In 2012, the European Commission approved three health claims for choline, applicable at a dosage of at least 82.5 mg. It is important for normal lipid metabolism, homocysteine metabolism, and normal liver function. In 2016, the first recommended daily allowance (RDA) was established in America at 550 mg/day, based on clinical research specifically aimed at determining daily needs. In 2016, EFSA also concluded that choline is an essential nutrient, but has not yet established a reference intake (RI). The adequate intake was set at 400 mg/day, based on the average intake in European countries, and not based on the American study that came out at 550 mg/day. The average intake of adults in Europe ranges between 291 and 468 mg/day. There is plenty of reason to include a generous amount of choline in a daily multivitamin!

In the Elke Dag multis, choline from the brand VitaCholine® is processed. This brand stands for superior quality and has been extensively researched.

Lutein, zeaxanthin, and meso-zeaxanthin
Lutein, zeaxanthin, and meso-zeaxanthin are natural carotenoids. In the body, there is a high concentration of these substances in the retina and macula lutea ('yellow spot'). The body cannot produce lutein and zeaxanthin itself but must obtain them from food. They are found in green leafy vegetables, as well as red, yellow, and orange vegetables and fruits. Meso-zeaxanthin is very limited in food (shrimp, the skin of salmon, the skin and flesh of trout). It is primarily produced in the retina by the conversion of lutein through an enzymatic reaction. It can be well supplemented. Meso-zeaxanthin has been known relatively briefly to be a very good supplement and is preferred over supplementation of only lutein and zeaxanthin.

Usage
Take 1 tablet per day with a meal and water. Stick to the recommended dosage.

This dietary supplement is not suitable for children up to and including 10 years (legally required mention for products with more than 20 µg of vitamin D per daily dosage).

The vitamin K in this product makes it unsuitable for simultaneous use with coumarin derivatives (anticoagulants such as acenocoumarol and phenprocoumon). These medications are also known as vitamin K antagonists, and their effectiveness is reduced by the intake of vitamin K from food and supplements.
