Omschrijving
Yours Healthcare Fit with dietary supplements
Dr. Gert Schuitemaker is a pharmacist and doctor of medicine. He has been involved in orthomolecular science since 1980 according to the principles of double Nobel Prize winner Dr. Linus Pauling. Schuitemaker is the editor-in-chief of the magazines ORTHOmoleculair Magazine and Fit met Voeding. He is also the founder and former president of the professional association Society for the Promotion of Orthomolecular Medicine (MBOG) and former president of the International Society for Orthomolecular Medicine (ISOM, based in Toronto). For other books by him: www.gezondeboeken.nl.
Drs. Toine de Graaf has been specializing in healthcare journalism since 1989. After working for a magazine and a daily newspaper, he chose a freelance career in 1996. De Graaf is the editor-in-chief of Fit met Voeding and also writes for various media, including ORTHOmoleculair Magazine and the magazine gezondNU.
The authors are strong advocates of Mediterranean nutrition and the 'paleo diet'. Because our body and genes have adapted to this nutrition over millions of years. Humans have grown up with it. How different is our lifestyle now. No matter how well you eat and how responsibly you live, the circumstances have changed significantly, and our body and genes have not been able to keep up. Hence, dietary supplements.
The average doctor has no idea about this. Rarely do you leave his office with sound nutritional advice. He prefers to prescribe medications, even when good nutrition and dietary supplements address the cause of the condition, especially as one ages. For decades, medications have replaced good nutrition. The application of dietary supplements has been systematically ignored.
The authors demonstrate that orthomolecular science is a logical consequence of the major discoveries in nutritional science in the last century. It fully aligns with the ideas of the great discoverers of vitamins. This timeline with orthomolecular science as a 'natural' component can undoubtedly be extended into the future, with the completion of the Human Genome Project as a driving force.
It is important for your health to know these backgrounds. Together with the practical knowledge this book provides, it offers the opportunity to take your health back into your own hands.
