Calcium Sandoz® effervescent 500 mg, effervescent tablets
Calcium plays an important role in the formation of the skeleton. Calcium deficiency reduces the quality of the bones. This makes fractures occur more easily. A deficiency of calcium can be a result of illness, but can also gradually develop due to insufficient calcium in the diet or because the body consumes unusually large amounts of calcium. Supplementing with extra calcium can positively influence the quality of the bones.

What is this product used for
What is this medicine taken for:
• Combatting calcium deficiency
• in cases of poor calcification of the bones in both children (this is referred to as rickets) and in
adults (this is referred to as osteomalacia).
• in cases of impaired calcium absorption in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract, such as
after removal of parts of the stomach or intestine.
• in cases of muscle cramps (tetany) caused by low calcium in the blood and only
after the severe symptoms have been controlled by an intravenous calcium infusion.
• Supplement with other treatment:
as an adjunct treatment for osteoporosis (such as during and after menopause in women, at
old age and in osteoporosis caused by corticosteroids).
• When the need for calcium is increased:
this is for example in children during growth, during pregnancy, during breastfeeding and in
elderly.

Do not use in case of
You are allergic to one of the substances in this medication. If the calcium level in your blood and urine is too high, this medication should not be used.
If your kidneys are not functioning well, you should not use this medication. You should not take this medication if you need to stay in bed for an extended period and the calcium level in your blood and/or urine is too high.
Treatment with this medication may only be resumed once you are back on your feet.

Do not use in case of:
Consult a doctor before use if on a sodium-restricted diet, have kidney problems, or insufficient parathyroid function. Do not use together with certain medications and vitamin D, see the package insert for which medications this concerns.

Active ingredients
calcium carbonate 1250 mg (equivalent to 500 mg
calcium)

Excipients
citric acid (E330), malic acid (E296), sodium bicarbonate (E500), sodium cyclamate (E952), sodium carbonate (E500), lemon flavoring (contains among others sorbitol (E420)), sodium saccharin (E954).

Dosage
The usual daily dosage is 1 tablet. In severe cases of calcium loss or deficiency, up to
4 tablets Calcium Sandoz effervescent 500 mg may be required. Do not use for more than 14 days without a
consult a doctor. If more than 1 tablet is needed per day, the recommended daily dosage
to be divided over multiple intakes

Children
Children aged 6 to 10 years: 1 tablet Calcium Sandoz effervescent 500 mg per day (500 mg
per day). Children aged 10 to 18 years: 2 tablets Calcium Sandoz effervescent 500 mg per
per day (1000 mg per day).

Maximum dosage
2-4, depending on the complaint
